Ilsa was asked by college managers to create an identity and range of communication material for their annual exhibition event. The first, held in 2011 was entitled “generate”, at the time, the organisation was going through many changes to increase the student offer and the students work reflected this wide variety of learnt skills. It seemed that the portfolios to be exhibited were jam packed full of work that showed real progress and self development leading to valuable outcomes.

The flyers we produced, depicted an energetic burst of growth using cracked eggshells as a metaphor for bursts of creativity. The students work itself was placed within frames that appeared to be “generated” by the shells and provided a flexible format for curation of the strongest pieces in the show so that visitors were able to get a taste of what to expect. The 2012 identity entitled “Vision” uses a student painting, cropped and manipulated to fill in typographic outlines describing the disciplines studied. These words, which appear to be bursting from a human eye were placed in tandem in order to highlight the college emphasis that year on a multidisciplinary approach being key to progression of “vision” and innovation.
